Description & Features: This card is an original Queen of Wands from an 1890 printing of the Schaffhouse (Schaffhausen) Tarot deck, a lesser-known but authentic variant of the classic Tarot de Marseille. Printed and colored in the traditional woodcut style, it features:

  • Bold primary coloring using natural pigments typical of late 19th century stenciling methods.

  • Distinctive cross-hatched blue patterning on the reverse (not pictured here), characteristic of Schaffhouse backs.

  • Crowned female figure seated in regal posture with a staff, framed by ornamental robes rendered in vibrant orange, red, and green tones.

  • French titling "REINE DE BATON" in uppercase serifed type at the bottom.

  • Fine black border lines consistent with original lithographic plates of the period.

Condition: This card remains in very good antique condition with minimal wear, appropriate for its age. The image and text are well-preserved, and the card has been professionally encased in a crystal-clear display holder for preservation and display purposes.

Historical Context: The Schaffhouse deck was produced during a flourishing period of Tarot printing in Switzerland, reflecting both regional interpretations of the Tarot de Marseille and evolving woodblock techniques. Though not as mass-distributed as the French Grimaud or Conver editions, Schaffhouse decks are regarded as collectible rarities with significant historical and artistic value.

Authenticity Confirmation: This card has been visually examined and authenticated based on its: Age-appropriate patina, Period-consistent color stenciling and ink wear, Typeface and image fidelity to Schaffhouse woodblock models, Expert confirmation by a recognized Tarot historian or collector (verification in process or pending documentation, if applicable)
